Every working woman knows how it feels to wake up in the morning and in the midst of all the hustle and bustle, decide what she is going to wear for office. You want to look good, beautiful and pretty, but often we are crunched for time and end up throwing on the first available outfit. And especially for those of you ladies, that wake up and say ‘Ohhh, I have nothing to wear today to office,’ here is a list of work wear that will get you through the week.

Hijabs

Every Muslim woman needs a few must have hijabs or scarves for work wear. Since a woman is working 6-8 hours a day, it is better to opt for lightweight fabrics like jersey or chiffon. For professional attire, it is ideal to pick neutral colours like beige, grey and pastels that will match with a variety of outfits. The hijab style should also be kept simple and stylish and not over the top. The Turkish style hijab is quite popular for office wear. Avoid too many embellishments on your hijab.

Jalabiya

For the modest woman, a long maxi or jalabiya is a great option for work. You can choose to wear an abaya or a long loose-fitting style cardigan over it. Choose stylish silhouettes which are not too loose or tight and opt for self – colours. For office, the hijabi can choose colours like navy, green, teal or even shades of pink, depending on your work ambience. It is fine to have a bit of seasonal prints like florals, polka dots or stripes but in a moderate way. Prints should not be overdone on maxis for office wear.

Midi Kaftans

Midi kaftans aka short kurtis are a great option to wear over pants. They work well for the office for modest hijabis as they are available in different lengths. Some ponchos come up to the hips and others are longer till the knees, choose whichever you are most comfortable in. Generally Kaftans are made of chiffon or silk and can be worn with coloured cotton inners that will create contrast. For office wear, hijabis can choose embellished ponchos or plain ones.

Who said western-style outfits are not for the modest hijabis? All you need to know- is how to mix and match clothing well and adapt them to your style. Young Muslimah women often opt for trousers, long skirts and long dresses and pair it along with their hijabs for office. Keep a good balance of pastel and bright colours for work.

Now, your work styles don’t need to be drab and boring.
